KENT- Jack Kartsonas tossed six shutout innings and Jake Casey drove in a pair, highlighting a 3-2 win over Saint Joseph's in Friday's series opener.
Kartsonas was terrific, tossing six shutout innings against the Hawks. The righty scattered three hits and walked a trio while striking out nine.
Jake Casey provided the offense, clearing the scoreboard in the second inning for a solo homer. He later added a run-scoring single in the sixth, which proved to be the game-winning run.
Caden Leonard and Benny Roebuck wrapped up the victory with Roebuck nailing down his first save of the season. Kent State pitching forced the Hawks to leave nine on base on Friday, highlighted by a inning-ending diving catch from Josh Johnson that ended the seventh and kept it a 3-2 ball game.
The win moves Kent State to 10-11 overall. Frigid temperatures will push Saturday's game to a Sunday doubleheader. First pitch from Schoony on Sunday is set for noon.
