DeKALB,ILL- Tim Orr capped a two-out ninth inning rally with a grand slam and the Flashes outlasted Northern Illinois 9-8 in 10 innings to take the series and earn the 2,000th win in program history.
Kent State found itself down 7-4 with two out and nobody on in the ninth. The Flashes then embarked on a comeback straight out of Hollywood. Lance MacDonald was down to his final strike before shooting a double down the right field line. Ripken Reese was hit by a pitch and Josh Johnson worked a walk. Tim Orr then sent a 1-0 pitch the opposite way, over the left field wall for his second homer of the game and putting the Flashes ahead 8-7.
The Huskies were able to tie the game in the ninth, sending the contest to extra innings. In the 10th, Brody Williams worked a walk and went to second on a wild pitch. Dom Kibler then sent a single into right field, plating Williams and giving Kent State the lead for good. Peyton Cariaco worked around a two-out single and got the game-clinching strikeout to seal the victory.
Orr finished the game two-for-five with a game high five runs driven in. Eight different Flashes scored a run on Sunday. Kent State sent four homers out on Sunday, with Michael McNamara and Kyle Jackson joining Tim Orr.
