KENT, Ohio – The Kent State softball team honored its three senior student-athletes prior to first pitch against rival Akron on Sunday at Devine Diamond.
Although multiple lightning delays prevented the game from becoming official, Emily Lippe, Julia Mazanec and Alexandria Whitmore were recognized prior to the game and were able to enjoy a special moment, as each member of the senior class caught a ceremonial first pitch thrown by their father.
All three finish their career with multiple entries in the Golden Flashes' record book.
Lippe goes down as one of the most powerful hitters in school history and hit 32 home runs, which ranks fifth all-time. Lippe sits eighth in RBIs (99), slugging percentage (.524) and walks (69) in a career.
Mazanec had a monster final season with a .391 batting average, 59 hits and 40 runs scored and ranks in the top-10 in all-time single-season leaders in each category.
Whitmore hit seven triples in her final season wearing the blue and gold, one off tying the single-season record. She finished with 11 for her career, which ranks fourth all-time.
Kent State finishes the first season of the Jessica O'Donnell era with a 26-23 record and made great offensive improvements. The Flashes recorded the second highest slugging percentage (.457) in program history, fourth highest batting average (.302) and fourth most hits (403).
