TORONTO – Former Kent State University men's golf standout Corey Conners will need to update his resume to read "two-time Olympian", as the Listowel, Ontario native has been nominated to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Golf Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee announced on Monday.
Men's golf competition at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad will feature 72 holes at Le Golf National from August 1-4.
Conners clinched Canada's second qualifying spot on Sunday with an even-par 70 to finish tied for ninth at the 124th U.S. Open and rise to No. 37 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), one spot ahead of Adam Hadwin. Two of his former Golden Flashes teammates, Taylor Pendrith and Mackenzie Hughes, are the second and third alternates, respectively, for Team Canada.
The Varsity K Hall of Fame member finished 13th in the field of 60 at the 2020 Olympic Games. Hughes also represented Canada in Tokyo and placed 50th.
Kent State alumni Danny Sahl and David Markle will also make the trip to Paris as caddies for Conners and Nick Taylor, respectively.
Since earning his PGA TOUR card in 2018, Conners is a two-time winner at the Valero Texas Open (2019 and 2023). Two of his 25 career top-10 finishes have been at major events (2022 Masters and 2024 U.S. Open).
During his career as a Golden Flash, Conners was a two-time All-American and his 72.94 career scoring average is the fifth lowest in program history. He was a two-time Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Year and two-time MAC Championships individual medalist.
