KENT, Ohio — The Kent State women's basketball program has added transfers Joy Bergstrom (South Dakota) and Riley Rismiller (Dayton), who are currently on campus for summer workouts with the reigning Mid-American Conference Tournament champions.
"I'm really excited about the depth at multiple positions that will be created by the additions of Joy and Riley," head coach Todd Starkey said. "We recruited both out of high school and believe they have the ability to be all-conference players in the future."
Joy Bergstrom | 5-9, Guard
A four-time all-state selection, Bergstrom set the career (1,824) and single-season (565) scoring records at Saint Viator High School. She was a four-year captain and led the Lions to three IHSA 3A regional titles. Bergstrom was one of 12 players from Illinois to be nominated for the 2022 McDonald's All-American Games. She was sidelined the past two seasons while a member of the South Dakota women's basketball program.
"Joy was heavily recruited by many schools and will bring a lot of versatility at the big guard and wing position," Starkey said.
Riley Rismiller | 6-4, Forward
Rismiller averaged 4.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game during her freshman campaign at Dayton last season. She scored a season-high 13 points in just 11 minutes of action against Ohio Dominican and recorded eight-board performances against Purdue and Duquesne. Rismiller also displayed her long-range shooting ability and ranked fifth on the team in three-pointers (9).
"Riley's size will be a difference maker in the MAC," Starkey said. "We are looking forward to using her versatility in the post to our advantage."
