KENT, Ohio — Former Kent State softball standout Alexandria Whitmore has been hired as an assistant coach, head coach Jessica O'Donnell announced on Wednesday.
"I am thrilled to have Alex join our coaching staff," O'Donnell said. "As a recent Kent State softball graduate, Alex knows what it takes to compete in the MAC and the day-to-day grind it takes to play at the Division I level. She is a true competitor and great clinician, who will make an immediate impact with our program. Alex will work with our infielders, offense, day-to-day operations, and recruiting logistics. We are looking forward to helping her transition into this role to help our program compete at the highest level."
A five-year letterwinner and two-year captain, Whitmore appeared in 157 games for the Golden Flashes from 2020-24. She earned All-MAC Second Team honors in 2023 and finished her career with 109 hits and 77 runs scored. Whitmore led the Mid-American Conference with seven triples this past spring, one away from tying the school record, and sits in a tie for fourth in the record book with 11 career triples. During the 2022 season, she earned the No. 1 Play of the Week from NCAA Softball on March 5 after avoiding a tag attempt by the catcher to score in a game against Drake. Whitmore earned Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors in 2024.
Whitmore graduated from Kent State University in 2023 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Criminology and Justice Studies as well as Psychology.
