KENT, Ohio – It was announced on Thursday that Kent State's Isaiah Ibit has won the MAC men's golfer of the week award for the first time in his young collegiate career. This comes after a runner-up appearance at the Canadian Collegiate in which Ibit shot 12-under-par by firing three consecutive rounds in the 60s.
After posting a top-20 finish at the Gopher Invitational to open the season, Ibit took it a step further while playing in his home country at the Canadian Collegiate this week. In his second tournament as a collegiate golfer, the freshman became just the fifth Kent State golfer to ever shoot an entire tournament in the 60s, joined by the likes of Corey Connors and head coach Jon Mills. Ibit utilized 18 birdies and one eagle across 54 holes to record rounds of 67,69, and 68 en route to a second-place finish among the field of 55 players. The freshman's 54-hole score of 204 is tied for the fifth-best in team history.
Ibit and the Golden Flashes will return to action on September 30 at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, where they will compete alongside the Kent State women's golf team in a three-day event that will be televised on the Golf Channel.
