
Flashes Fall to Eagles in Straight Sets

KENT, Ohio – Kent State was defeated by Eastern Michigan, 3-0 (15-25, 22-25, 18-25), in a Mid-American Conference volleyball matchup inside of the M.A.C. Center on Friday.
The Golden Flashes (1-11, 0-2 MAC) had a strong blocking performance with 10 to tie the most in a match this season. Redshirt sophomores Alexandria Connatser and Liliana Mechura led the way with five total blocks each, while senior Anna Shoemake was right behind with four.
For the second night in a row, junior Mackenzie McGuire led the attack and finished with 10 kills. Junior Kendall White totaled 15 assists and 12 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
Junior Greta Bolognini tallied a team-high 14 digs.
How it Happened…
Set 1 (15-25): Kent State started strong with kills by Mackenzie McGuire and Anna Shoemake for a 2-0 lead. EMU took its first lead of the night at 7-6 but the Golden Flashes came back to tie it at 11-11 on another kill from McGuire. The Eagles scored the next four to lead at the media timeout and used a 7-0 run shortly after to pull away and take the opening set.
Set 2 (22-25): Trailing by six late, Kent State scored four straight to get within 23-21 but was unable to completely erase the deficit. The Flashes totaled four blocks to post a higher hitting percentage (.146 to .136) in the set.
Set 3 (18-25): Despite facing a 23-12 deficit, Kent State would not allow its guest to complete the sweep easily. Alexandria Connatser recorded a solo stuff and Liliana Mechura and Shoemake teamed for blocks on the next two points as part of a 5-0 run before dropping the set.
Up Next for the Flashes
Kent State will play its next four matches on the road, beginning with a pair against Buffalo on Oct. 4-5.
