KENT- The Golden Flashes got career-high games from Tommy Ulatowski and Chrishon McCray but it was not enough in a 52-33 setback on a soggy homecoming Saturday at Dix Stadium.
Making his first start of the season, Ulatowski topped 300 yards for the first time in his career. The junior threw for 345 yards on 15 completions and three touchdowns while running for a fourth.
His favorite target was Chrishon McCray who topped last season's 161 performance in the Wagon Wheel game with a five-catch, 188 yard and two touchdown performance. McCray's big play ability was showcased with his touchdown catches covering 65 and 68 yards.
McCray's first touchdown came on the opening drive of the second half, knotting the game at 21. But Eastern Michigan took advantage of a short field on a couple of second half drives and scored 24 unanswered points to put the game out of reach. McCray and Ulatowski would each score late but it wouldn't be enough.
Alex Branch led the defense with nine stops, highlighted by a fourth-down stop that forced a turnover on downs. Â Zaid Hamdan had a sack to go along with five stops and Josh Baka had a couple of stops behind the line.
The Flashes and Eagles will both enjoy a bye during week six. Kent State is back in action and remains at home on October 12th, hosting Ball State. Kick time for the game against the Cardinals has not yet been set.
