
Kent State Welcomes SFU for 2024 Football Home Opener

KENT- Year two of the Kent GRIT era opens up the home season on Saturday afternoon inside Dix Stadium as the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash come to town in a battle of the Flashes.
Kickoff is set for 2:32 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ and the Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine Kent State Radio Network with the Kent State pre-game starting at 2:00 p.m.
FAN FESTIVITIES
It will be an action-packed day for fans as the game day gets started with the second annual Kent State 5K, starting in downtown Kent and ending at the stadium.
Tailgating opens at 11:30 a.m. with the team arrival GRIT Walk at noon. Gates officially open at 1 p.m. with the first 1,000 fans getting a replica gold jersey. Fans are encouraged to wear gold to deck out Dix Stadium with
the best color of Flash.
It is also fraternity and sorority day, parents and family day, as well as the Flashes 101 celebration, welcoming in the freshman class to their first home football game. Fans are encouraged to view our Know Before You Go to familiarize yourself with a football gameday.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
The Golden Flashes dropped their opener at Pitt last weekend. Luke Floriea led the offense with a career best 106 yards receiving and a fourth-down touchdown. The Flashes defense recorded four sacks by four different players. Stephen Daley was part of that group and had a pair of stops in the backfield against the Panthers. Andrew Glass added a field goal and three extra points, those three point after touchdowns put him over 100 for his career. Glass became only the third Golden Flash kicker to top that century mark.
Saint Francis, out of Loretto, Pennsylvania, 90 minutes east of Pittsburgh, competes out of the Northeast Conference. They opened the season with a 18-10 setback at Dayton. Nick Whitfield Jr threw for 121 yards against the Flyers, hitting Gavin Thompson for a team high 44 yards receiving. DeMarcus McElroy rushed for 70 yards on nine carries and added another 30 yards on four catches. The Red Flash defense had five sacks, led by Paul Tangelo who had two sacks and three TFLs.
This will be the first matchup between the Red Flash and the Golden Flashes, the schools have met up on the basketball and volleyball courts, the field hockey and soccer pitch and the softball diamond. The week two contest is the second of three for the Flashes against teams from the Keystone State.
Next week, Kent State hits the road, traveling to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers. Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. ET.
