Flashes Open Season with Seventh Place Finish at Gopher Invitational

INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – The Kent State men's golf team concluded the opening tournament of the Fall on Monday with the third and final round of the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Course. The Flashes recorded a third-round team score of 13-over-par to finish the tournament in seventh place out of the field of 15 teams with an overall score of 20-over-par.
After a strong opening two rounds, Jordan Gilkison was able to secure a top-ten finish to open his senior season. The All-MAC first-teamer utilized a third-round 2-over-par 73 to conclude the tournament tied for ninth place out of 80 players on the individual leaderboard.
Isaiah Ibit capped off a consistent display with a 2-over-par 73 of his own in Monday's final round. The freshman clinched a top-20 finish in his first collegiate tournament, as his 5-over-par final tally resulted in a tie for 19th place.
Kent State's other countable scores toward the team total in Monday's third round came from Bryce Reed and Ben MacLean. Reed fired a 5-over-par 76 to conclude his tournament at 9-over-par and tied for 36th place. MacLean utilized a 4-over-par 75 on Monday to end his weekend at 10-over-par and tied for 38th place.
Another highlight from the weekend for the Flashes was Ramiro Acevedo, who competed as an individual at the nearby Minnesota Golf Classic. The freshman opened his collegiate career in style, claiming the individual championship at 3-under-par. Acevedo fired back-to-back rounds of 2-under-par in rounds two and three to conclude the tournament atop the leaderboard.
The Flashes will return to action on Monday, September 16, as they head to Öviinbyrd Golf Club in Ontario for the Canadian Collegiate.
