Kent, Ohio-Â The Kent State Soccer was awarded another hard-earned three points on Sunday in a win over Northern Illinois University on Senior Day/Alumni Day by a score of 1-0. The Golden Flashes honored seniors Morgan Flippin, Julia Kempf, Savannah Holmes, Taylor English, Abby Breitschuh and Kelsey Salopek before the game for Senior Day Festivities; while also honoring program alumni at halftime.
The contest was another physical one as both teams struggled to move the ball down the field much in the first half, sending the contest into a no-score tie into the halftime break.
The Golden Flashes got on the board first in the second half as a Husky penalty in the box gave the Blue and Gold a Penalty Shot in the 67th-minute. Junior forward Kiyomi McCausland was able to capitalize as she put the ball in the top right portion of the net for a score. KSU held on the defensive end for the remainder of the game to secure the 1-0 victory at home.
The Flashes once again led the game in shooting with 12 shots compared to NIU's 6. However, the Huskies led the shots-on-goal category by a count of 5-3. Kent State led the corner kick tally by a count of 4-3; while junior goalkeeper Leah Shaffer racked up five saves in the win.
