
Kent State Soccer Heads Down The Road To Take On Akron

Kent, Ohio- The Kent State Soccer team goes back on the road after a three-game home stand to face rival Akron in a short road trip on Sunday at 1 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes earned a point after forcing a 1-1 draw with Eastern Michigan in an historic matchup for both sides. Kent State impressively shot the ball 31 times which tied the school record for fourth most in a single game. They also held the Eagles to just three shots the entire game. EMU goalkeeper Ella Holland tied a 26-year old record in the Mid-American Conference for the most saves in a single game with 20.
Eastern Michigan got on the board first in the 69th-minute on a free kick as Rosalie Takacsy sent the ball in to Hannah Thompson who capitalized and put the ball in the back of the net.
Kent State scored the equalizer very quickly as Samantha Miller went past the right side of the EMU defense to score less than a minute later in a play that showed a strong sense of urgency from the Flashes. That score would be the last of the contest as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Along with a 28-shot differential in favor of the Blue and Gold, they also led in the corner kick category by a count of 7-0. Junior midfielder Samantha Miller and freshman forward Jules Dolinski finished with 7 and 6 shots respectively while each produced five shots-on-goal respectively. Senior defender Kesley Salopek also finished with five shots on the night. Leah Shaffer finished the game with another pair of saves.
Scouting Akron
Akron has posted a record of 3-5-3 this season and have started conference play 0-3-2. They have played a common opponent in conference play so far this season which is UMass, who they fell to at home by a score of 1-0.
Freshman midfielder Addison Hall has led the Zips so far this season with seven points coming off of three goals and one assist. Fellow freshman midfielder Fineen Cregan has produced five points from a goal and three assists. Senior forward Emma King has contributed two goals and an assist in 2025.
Series History
Sunday's matchup will be the 26th all-time meeting between the Flashes and the Zips as they Blue and Gold have mostly dominated the all-time series with a 21-4 advantage. That record includes a 1-0 win over Akron at home a year ago.

After traveling to Akron, the Golden Flashes will head back home for a matchup with the Ohio Bobcats on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium.
