Golden Flashes Head to Eastern Michigan for Volleyball Matches

Kent State begins a stretch of back-to-back road weekends with a trip to Eastern Michigan. The Golden Flashes and Eagles will battle on Thursday at 6 p.m. and on Friday at 4 p.m.

PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State (7-9, 2-3 MAC) was unable to win three consecutive conference contests for the first time since 2021 and fell to Ohio, 3-0, on Tuesday evening. The blocking has been excellent over the last three matches, as the Golden Flashes have averaged 3.10 blocks per set and held opponents to a .097 hitting percentage.
Senior Mackenzie McGuire has been among the best offensive players in the MAC this and ranks second in kills per set (3.97) and third in points per set (4.47). McGuire is No. 45 nationally with 230 total kills. She has recorded at least 10 kills in 13 of 16 matches.
A trio of newcomers have made immediate impacts to Kent State's attack, as freshman Macie Moreland (96), junior Mercedez Brown (94) and redshirt sophomore Adalynn Ginley (84) are the next three kills leaders. Ginley ranks second in the MAC in hitting percentage (.347) and fifth in blocks per set (1.18).
Junior Christina Vigil ranks fifth in the MAC at 9.12 assists per set and also leads the team at 2.60 digs per set.
MCGUIRE MAKING HER MARK
The only four-year member of the program, outside hitter Mackenzie McGuire officially entered the Kent State record book on Sept. 6 against Morgan State as the 17th member of the 1,000 kills club. She moved into the No. 8 spot on the Flashes career list during Saturday's match against Akron and enters the weekend with 1,145 kills.
McGuire tallied the 500th dig of her career during the Morgan State match.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
The Eagles (8-10, 0-5 MAC) have lost six in a row and seek their first conference victory. Eastern Michigan has hit below .125 in all five MAC contests and hasย a .095 hitting percentage overall in league play. Outside hitter/opposite Ava Siefke is the top attacker and ranks fifth in the conference with an average of 3.69 kills per set. The Eagles rank third in the MAC in both blocks (2.31) and digs (15.18) per set. Middle blocker Hatteras Welker is second in the conference at 1.30 blocks per set and libero Surabhi Srinivasan averages a team-high 3.63 digs per set.
SERIES HISTORY
Kent State owns a 22-42-1 record all-time against Eastern Michigan. The Golden Flashes have lost the past four meetings and last won on Oct. 8, 2022, in Ypsilanti.
