
Flashes Fall in Thursday Road Contest in Ypsilanti

YPSILANTI, Mich. โ The Kent State volleyball team lost to host Eastern Michigan, 3-0 (23-25, 12-25, 20-25), on Thursday in a Mid-American Conference contest.
Senior Mackenzie McGuire recorded a match-high 13 kills and junior Christina Vigil totaled 30 assists to lead the Golden Flashes (7-10, 2-4 MAC) on offense. Sophomore Lesley Furuta led the defense with 10 digs and sophomore Hailey Brenner was right behind with nine.
Neither team led by more than two in the opening set until a 5-0 run put Kent State ahead 18-14 and forced the Eagles to call timeout. Eastern Michigan scored seven straight after the stoppage until sophomore Nadia Miller and Vigil teamed on a block for a big side out. The duo recorded another block on the next point and Brenner tied it with an ace. Miller gave the Flashes a 22-21 advantage with a solo stuff. EMU scored the next two point to regain the lead before McGuire tied it with a kill. An attack error and ace then gave the Eagles the first set, 25-23.
Following a kill by redshirt sophomore Adalynn Ginley and block by Ginley and McGuire cut Kent State's deficit two 13-11 in the second set, EMU closed the set with a 12-1ย run.
Despite six kills by McGuire in the third, the Flashes were unable to extend the match to a fourth set.
Kent State and Eastern Michigan will meet again on Friday at 4 p.m.
