
Flashes Fall on Road to Duquesne in Defensive Battle

PITTSBURGH — Kent State lost to Duquesne, 58-53, in road contest at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse on Monday evening.
The Golden Flashes (3-4) held their host 28 points below its scoring average entering the night but recorded a 20-for-70 shooting performance for 28.6% on the other end of the court. The Dukes blocked 10 shots in the contest, which is two more than over their first five games combined.
A three-pointer by junior Mya Babbitt and inside basket by junior Janae Tyler put Kent State ahead 5-0, and the Flashes prevented their host from making a field goal until the 4:21 mark of the opening period. Duquesne made six of its final seven shots of the quarter to lead 17-11 after 10 minutes.
Sophomore Emory Klatt sank a baseline jumper to get within 21-20 with 4:14 remaining in the second quarter, but Kent State went scoreless the rest of the half and trailed 27-20 at the break.
Duquesne knocked down four of five shots from three-point distance during the third period to go ahead 45-33 entering the fourth.
The Flashes trimmed the lead to six with 2:30 to play but allowed an open three-pointer on the other end to push the deficit back to nine.
Junior Riley Rismiller led Kent State with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Freshman Rylee Kalocay was right behind with a career-high 11 points, while Babbitt and senior Tatiana Thomas also reached double-figures with 10 each.
The Flashes will now travel to Nassau, Bahamas for games on Friday and Sunday as part of the 2025 Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship.
