Kent State looks return from the Bahamas with new hardware and will play Arkansas State in the title game of the 2025 Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship Goombay Division on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
The Golden Flashes (4-4) advanced to the championship game by beating Tulsa, 75-69, on Friday. Despite leading by 12 with less than seven minutes remaining, Kent State needed to make clutch free throw to hold off a comeback effort. The Flashes made just one of their final 10 field goal attempts but went 10-for-10 at the charity stripe over the final three minutes to maintain the lead. Mya Babbitt led the way with 28 points and eight rebounds, which matched her career-high. Janae Tyler had 15 points to help Kent State to a 38-16 paint scoring advantage.
Junior Mya Babbitt is the Mid-American Conference's third leading scorer at 17.1 points per game and has two of the top three single-game scoring performances in the league. Babbitt is tied for the MAC lead with 19 three-point field goals and has scored in double-figures in seven consecutive games. The sharpshooter is second on the team with 5.1 rebounds per game. Juniors Janae Tyler (9.9 ppg) and Riley Rismiller (8.1 ppg) provide low post options. Rismiller has two double-doubles and ranks eighth in the MAC in rebounding with 7.1 per game. Senior Dionna Gray (4.2 ppg) is sixth in the MAC in assists with 4.5 per game.
Scouting Arkansas State
The Red Wolves (4-3) forced a program record 38 turnovers in an 83-66 victory over Houston on Friday afternoon to advance to the title game. Arkansas State ranks seventh in the country in turnovers forced per game (27.2) and 14th in steals per game (14.3). The aggressive defensive style has also resulted in easy scoring opportunities for opponents, as the Red Wolves are last in the Sun Belt Conference in field goal percentage defense (.473) and have been whistled for at least 23 fouls in six of seven contests.
Guard Zylon Shannon ranks fourth in the Sun Belt in scoring (16.4 ppg) and second in steals per game (3.0 spg). After struggling to knock down three-pointers during the first two games of the season, Shannon has shot nearly 40% from long range over the past five. Crislyn Rose (11.0 ppg) has a team-high 21 assists and has averaged 21.3 points per game against Mid-American Conference members the past two seasons. Forward Wynter Rogers (7.1 ppg) is the top interior presence and grabs 7.1 rebounds per contest.
