BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Kent State Men's Basketball team held off a late game push from the Bowling Green State University Falcons on Tuesday night by a final score of 91-84. Jalen Sullinger went perfect at the free throw line (15-15) on his way to matching his career high of 32 points.
Despite trailing at the first media timeout, Kent State quickly tied the game at 11 before retaking the lead with a 15-4 run. Cli'Ron Hornbeak made his presence known with a trio of blocks in the first half. The Flashes were able to create some separation leading 41-28 after the first 20. Bowling Green closed the gap in the opening minutes of the second as KSU's lead shrunk to seven with just over 12 minutes remaining. From there Kent State turned up the heat on defense just as VonCameron Davis began to heat up from behind the arch. Bowling Green's sharp shooting kept them in the game as they closed it to four-points with 2:50 left to play. Despite the push Kent State went on a 9-6 run to close out the win. Six of KSU's winning time points came from Jalen Sullinger.
Tuesday's win was Kent State's 12th straight over Bowling Green sweeping the regular season series. The Flashes' core senior three including Davis, Hornbeak, and Sullinger remain undefeated by BGSU. Sullinger's 32 points matched his performance on Jan. 14 against Western Michigan matching a career high. He and Davis recorded their 18th and 20th respective games in double-digits for the season. Marquis Barnett tallied 12 on his way to his ninth double-digit game of the season. Hornbeak led the Flashes in blocks with three, and matched Jamal Sumlin in rebounds with seven. Sumlin also led in assists with seven.
The Golden Flashes will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 21 against Miami University. Tipoff between the Flashes and the RedHawks is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
