
Golden Flashes Fall in Tampa Finale

TAMPA, Fla. – Troy rallied in the sixth inning to beat Kent State, 6-4, in the weekend finale at the South Florida Showdown.
The Golden Flashes (3-11) took an early 1-0 lead on a RBI single by junior Katie Jo Moery in the bottom of the first.
The Trojans tied it on a solo shot in the fourth and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth.
Kent State took back the lead with two runs to the lead in the bottom of the fifth, beginning with a double by sophomore Leilani Johnson. Junior Brynn Libler tied it with a single through the left side, and the go-ahead run came in a walk with the bases loaded drawn by senior Delaney Robeson.
Troy regained the lead with three runs on four hits in the top of the sixth.
Sophomore Aaralyn Nogay opened the bottom of the sixth with a single and scored on a single by junior Carley Penner to get within 5-4.
The Trojans added a final run in the seventh.
Senior Delaney Nagy got the start in the circle and allowed two runs over 4.2 innings.
Kent State will travel south for the final time this season next weekend for five games at the Mizuno Showdown, hosted by the University of North Carolina, from Feb. 28-March 2.
