
Flashes Seek Share of MAC Regular Season Title at Bowling Green on Sunday

KENT, Ohio – Fresh off a Friday night fly-the-flag victory over Pitt, the Kent State gymnastics team heads to Bowling Green for the team's fifth MAC meet of the season. The Flashes can secure a share of the conference regular season title for the second year in a row with a win over the Falcons. The meet, which is a tri-meet including Bowling Green and Wilberforce, is set to begin at 2 p.m. in the Stroh Center on Sunday.
ABOUT THE FLASHES
Kent State enters Sunday's tri-meet at 8-2 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in conference meets. In addition to being undefeated in conference action, the Flashes are coming off of a marquee non-conference win in the MAC Center on Friday night, knocking off ACC opponent Pitt 195.925-195.650. Kent State's team score of 195.925 is the team's highest of the season, surpassing the previous mark of 195.425 set at Eastern Michigan in January. Nene Alvine impressed as she has all season for the Flashes on Friday, winning on vault and finishing top two in three events. She opened her meet tying for first on vault with a 9.800 before setting a new season-high 9.800 on bars. Alvine then finished tied for second on the beam with a 9.850 before concluding her meet with a 9.875 on the floor to finish second in the event. Charlie Behner finished alongside Alvine at the top of the vault standings with a 9.800 of her own. Alyssa Guns starred on floor for the Flashes, posting the team's highest score across all events in the meet with a 9.900 to win the event. As a team, Kent State posted their highest score in any event this season on the floor, amassing an impressive 49.150. Brynne Tsipis posted a new season-high 9.875 on bars to win the event as the Flashes set a new season-high score as a team in the event with a 49.125.
SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN
Bowling Green is 2-8 on the season and 0-4 in MAC competition entering Sunday's penultimate conference meet. The Falcons posted their season-high score of 194.775 in a home conference dual meet defeat to Ball State at the Stroh Center. Bowling Green currently possesses a NQS of 192.235 and an average score of 192.275 to sit 62nd in the current national rankings, according to RoadToNationals.
SCOUTING WILBERFORCE
The Bulldogs are currently in their first season as an official NCAA women's gymnastics program. Wilberforce posted their highest score of the season, a 180.275, to open the season in the American Gold Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Classic quad-meet to open their season, where they finished fourth behind Arizona, Rutgers, and Southern Utah. The Flashes defeated the Bulldogs to open the season in a tri-meet at the MAC Center which also included Fisk. Wilberforce posted a 141.375 after only competing with three gymnasts on bars.
SERIES HISTORY
Kent State leads the all-time series with the Falcons 85-22 and currently holds a 10-meet win streak in the series. Bowling Green's last win over the Flashes came in the 2017 postseason, 196.400-194.850. Kent State faced the Falcons twice in 2024, winning 196.125-194.275 at the All-Ohio quad-meet before defeating Bowling Green 197.100-195.750 on senior day at the MAC Center.
The Flashes faced Wilberforce earlier this season in their season-opening tri-meet, defeating the Bulldogs 193.775-141.375. Wilberforce is currently in their first season as an official NCAA women's gymnastics program.
