Flashes Run-Rule Pride to Take Opener

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team opened up their weekend series against the Hofstra Pride with a massive 16-3 run-run win.
On the mound for the Flashes Gavin Jones delivered his second quality start of the season. The right-hander threw five scoreless innings allowing just three hits and striking out five Pride batters.
The Flashes jumped all over Hofstra scoring four runs in each of the first two innings. Brody Williams opened the scoring with an RBI single to third base and the Dom Kibler followed it up with a three-run blast over the right field wall.
Kent State would score four again in the second thanks to another RBI single by Williams this time to left field, then Kibler followed it up again with another three-run homer over the right field wall.
Two more runs would come into score in the third on a fielding error by the Hofstra first baseman to score Brady Marshall and Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe.
The Flashes would tally on six more runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Kiber RBI hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, a Sawyer Solitaria RBI single, and then back-to-back two-RBI singles by Kolton Schaller and Brady Marshall. Marshall recorded his first hit and RBI in Friday's win
Hofstra would get three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but it would prove to be too little too late for the Pride.
Kent State and Hofstra will be back to action on Saturday. Mar. 15 for game two of the three game set. First pitch is currently slated for 3 p.m.
