CLEVELAND – Kent State senior Alexandre Malanda has been selected as Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
The Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).
Malanda earned First Team All-America status by placing seventh in the men's triple jump at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. He saved his best jump for his last attempt and soared 52'-8" to leap Missouri's Sterling Scott and is the first Golden Flash ever to be a First Team All-American in the event.
The Golden Flash will open the outdoor season with student-athletes in action at the Texas Relays in Austin and Bobcat Invitational & Multi in San Marcos from March 27-29.
