BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Kent State dropped both games of a doubleheader to host Bowling Green on Friday afternoon. The Falcons posted a 10-2 victory in the opener and then rallied to take the second game, 7-6, on a walk-off hit.
The Golden Flashes (7-21, 0-5 MAC) were led at the plate by junior Carley Penner, who went 5-for-8 and scored a pair of runs.
Game 1: Bowling Green 10, Kent State 2 (6 innings)
The Falcons scored three in the first and four in the second for an early 7-0 lead.
Ella Johnson kept Bowling Green from scoring in the third and fourth, and Kent State got on the board in the top of the fifth on a two-run double to the gap in left-center by Savannah Wing.
The Falcons responded with a two-run blast in the bottom of the fifth and added a run on a sac fly in the sixth to end the game early.
Game 2: Bowling Green 7, Kent State 6
Two walks, an error and a wild pitch helped the Golden Flashes go ahead 1-0 in the top of the first. A single and three walks in the bottom of the first allowed the Falcons to tie it.
Kent State went ahead in the top of the third, which started with a single by Brynn Libler. After back-to-back to outs, heads-up base running allowed Libler to score on an infield double by Delaney Robeson.
A double by Katie Jo Moery brought in Wing to make it 3-1 in the top of the fifth.
Behind four hits in the bottom of the fifth, Bowling Green tied it 3-3.
After the first two batters were retired to start the top of the sixth, five consecutive Flashes reached. Carley Penner started the rally with a single and Libler then drew a walk. Savannah Wing followed with a single to center, scoring Penner. A fielding error allowed Libler to score, and Robeson added a single back up the middle to bring Wing home and make it 6-3.
The Falcons rallied in the bottom of the seventh and scored four runs on four hits and one error to sweep the doubleheader.
