BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Senior Katie Jo Moery recorded the 100th hit of her college career during a late rally as Kent State lost the final game of a weekend series against Bowling Green, 9-7.

Moery provided a spark for the Golden Flashes, which trailed by five, with a single to lead off the top of the seventh inning. A pair of misplays after sophomore Aaralyn Nogay sent a ball back up the middle allowed Moery to score the first run of the inning. Nogay then crossed home plate following a wild pitch and a passed ball to get within 9-6.

Junior Brynn Libler made it 9-7 with a two-out single that scored junior Carley Penner. Representing the tying run, the next batter worked the count full before popping up to the second baseman near the first base line for the final out.

Kent State held a 9-7 advantage in hits but finished the game with 11 runners left on base. Libler and Penner led the offense with two hits each, and Penner scored three runs.

Freshman Ella Johnson had a solid appearance out of the bullpen and allowed just two hits over three innings. After some control struggles early in the fourth, Johnson retired seven of the final eight batters she faced.

Kent State (7-22, 0-6 MAC) will be back in action at Devine Diamond on Tuesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader against Robert Morris.
