
Haynes Leads Flashes Through Two Rounds of Hootie at Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C. – The Kent State men's golf team continued their Spring slate on Monday with the second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Golf Club. The Flashes sit in tenth among the field of 15 after 36 holes at 3-under-par after posting a 1-under-par 287 in Monday's second round.
Through two rounds of play, freshman Nolan Haynes leads the Flashes. After firing a 1-under-par 71 to begin his tournament on Sunday, Haynes recorded a 2-under-par 70 on Monday to improve to 3-under-par through two rounds of play. He recorded an impressive six birdies to clinch back-to-back rounds under par for the first time in his collegiate career. Haynes sits tied for 16th of the 84 golfers competing entering Tuesday's final round, seeking the second top-20 finish of his freshman season.
Another freshman follows Haynes closely among the individual standings as Isaiah Ibit recorded his second consecutive round of 1-under-par 71 on Monday. Ibit matched Haynes' tally of six birdies on Monday as he improved to 2-under-par through 36 holes. After starting his tournament with back-to-back rounds of 71, Ibit now has 13 rounds of par or better this season. Ibit is tied for 23rd ahead of tomorrow's third round.
Bryce Reed is the third Kent State golfer under par through two rounds after recording an even-par 72 on Monday. The senior opened his tournament with a 1-under-par 71 in round one and sits at 1-under-par and tied for 28th ahead of Tuesday's third round. After ending his previous outing at the General Hackler Championship with a 68 in round three, Reed's back-to-back rounds of par or better increase his total tally to eight on the season.
The final score countable toward the Kent State team total on Monday was earned by Ramiro Acevedo. The freshman posted a 2-over-par 74 in round two as his standing dropped to 3-over-par through 36 holes. After three bogeys on the front nine, Acevedo responded with three birdies on the front nine to salvage a solid round for the Flashes. He is tied for 61st individually entering round three on Tuesday.
The Flashes return to action with the third and final round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay on Tuesday morning, with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
