
Flashes Head to Oxford for Massive MAC series with Miami

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes Baseball team will stay on the road and travel down to Oxford for a massive Mid-American Conference series against the Miami RedHawks. First pitch in Oxford it set for 3:00 p.m. on Friday and and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
All three games will be available to be streamed on Chatterbox Sports. Live stats will also be available.
About The Flashes
Kent State will enter this weekend's series at 20-11 on the season and 10-2 in MAC play. The Flashes are also riding the nation's second longest willing streak at 12 games. Kent State is coming off a big 8-3 mid-week win over the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus on Wednesday. The Flashes won their last six weekend series including winning the Keith LeClair Classic hosted by East Carolina and sweeping their last two MAC series against Toledo and Central Michigan.
The Flashes boast one of the highest-powered offenses in the MAC. Kent State leads or tied for the conference lead in runs (278), doubles (76), triples (14), runs batted in (260), hit by pitches (61), and stolen bases (68). Leading the way is a pair of seniors, Jake Casey and Hayden Jatczak who have started all 31 games for the Flashes. Casey leads the team in runs (44), home runs (9), slugging percentage (.698), hit by pitches (13), and on base percentage (.480). Jatczak leads the Flashes in hits (44), doubles (19), total bases (88). Jatczak's 19 doubles are good for first in the MAC and second in all of Division One baseball.
Starting pitchers Gavin Jones and Jacob Bean were stellar in their starts on the road last weekend in Central Michigan. Jones started on Friday going 5.1 innings allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four. Bean was spectacular on Saturday delivering the longest start of his career with seven shutout innings only allowing three hits and striking out seven Chippewas. Peyton Cariaco closed out both games pitching 1.1 innings in each allowing no runs.
Eric Chalus started the game last Sunday limiting the Chippewas to just three runs (two earned) and striking out two before turning the ball over to Rocco Bernadina who went the final four innings allowing just one run en route to his first save of the season.

Scouting the Opposition
The Miami RedHawks come into the weekend at 17-15 on the season and 12-3 in MAC play. The RedHawks are second in the MAC behind Ball State and Kent State who have a 10-2 conference record.
Like Kent State, Miami features a high-powered offense that is in the second in the MAC in runs (269), triples (10), home runs (47), runs batted in (255), and total bases (539). The RedHawks lead the conference in slugging percentage (.505) and walks (198).
Redshirt junior, Evan Applewick, is a force in the RedHawks lineup hitting .314 on the year and leads the team in runs (42), home runs (13), and runs batted in (41).
Miami also returns the reigning MAC reliever of the year in left hander Carson Byers. On the season Byers is pitching to the tune of a 2.35 ERA and is averaging just under a strikeout per inning across 38.1 innings pitched.
