
Flashes Set for a Pair of Non-Con Matchups

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes Baseball team will host a pair on non-conference opponents this week at Schoonover Stadium. On Monday Apr. 21 the Washington and Jefferson Presidents come to Kent. On Wednesday Apr. 23 the Flashes will face off with the Youngstown State Penguins. Both games are currently slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
Both games will be streamed on BoxCast and have live stats will also be available.
About The Flashes
Kent State is coming off a weekend sweep of the Ohio Bobcats. The Flashes defeated the Bobcats via the run-rule on Thursday and Friday by scores of 14-3 and 14-2 respectively and beat them 12-6 to clinch the sweep on Saturday.
Brody Williams who was recently named to the midseason watchlist for the Buster Posey award had a massive weekend for the Flashes hitting .545 with six hits, six runs scored, and four runs driven in. Williams was also phenomenal behind the dish catching two Bobcat runners sleeping on back picks Saturday afternoon.
Freshman, Sawyer Solitaria's bat also heated back up hitting .500 on the weekend with five hits, five runs scored, and seven runs driven in. Four of the Freshman's five hits went for extra bases (three doubles and a home run).
Jacob Bean was dominant again for the Flashes going five innings on Friday allowing just one run and striking out five Bobcats.
Scouting the Opposition
Washington and Jefferson
The Presidents come into Schoonover Stadium at 23-7 on the season and are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Allegheny, outscoring them 17-1 across 17 innings.
Jacob LaDuca leads the President's offense in most stats including batting average (.389), hits (42), doubles (11), total bases (64), walks (20), and stolen bases (13). The senior has recorded a hit in 22 of the 30 games he has played and started in.
Youngstown State
The Penguins come into the week at 10-28 on the 2025 season and 7-11 in Horizon league play. Youngstown State is coming off a series win over the weekend in Milwaukee and are slated to play at Eastern Michigan on Tuesday Apr. 22.
Kyle Fossum has been a machine in the Youngstown State batting order. The senior has started all 38 games for the Penguins and is hitting .397 on the season and leading the team in runs (43), hits (58), doubles (15), home runs (17), RBIs (43), and total bases (124).
The Flashes and the Penguins met twice last year once at each team's home ballpark. Kent State outscored the penguins 40-8 across the two games. Kent State has gotten the better of Youngstown State in the last three meeting with the Penguins last win coming in 2019.
