
Track and Field to Compete in Weekend Meets at Louisville and Ashland

The Kent State track and field program will have split squads in action this weekend at the University of Louisville's Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational and the Ashland Alumni Open on Friday and Saturday.

The Golden Flashes have 70 student-athletes entered for competition this weekend.
A pair of athletes with top-50 national rankings headline the entrants in Louisville. Alexandre Malanda holds the highest ranking at No. 11 in the men's triple jump after recording an outdoor personal-best at the Texas Relays. Jaheim Jones is ranked 43rd in the men's 100-meter dash and 44th in the men's 200-meter dash. Jones will also run the 4x100m relay with Sean Callahan Jr., Ryan Gruss and Dejon Manning. The quartet ran the only sub-40.00 race in the Mid-American Conference two weeks ago at the Duke Invitational.
Kristen Jay leads the way at the Ashland Alumni Open. The freshman ranks 62nd in the country with a MAC-leading javelin throw mark of 156'. Aliesha Shaw (women's discus throw), Payton Shippee (men's javelin throw) and Ethan Yost (men's 1,500m) are ranked in the top-3 in the conference in their respective events.

The Flashes will be back in action at the Jesse Owens Invitational on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3.
