
Flashes Run Rule Zips on Friday

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team took game one of the three game series against the rival Akron Zips by a score of 15-5
Akron came out swinging and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to two homers to left field. Kent State would answer right back with three runs of their own in the bottom half. Brody Williams got the Flashes on the board with a two-run double that bounced off the left field wall and Hunter Klotz would tie the game just a few pitches later scoring Williams on an RBI single.
Kent State would take the lead in the bottom of the third thanks to a Williams sacrifice fly and Hayden Jatczak coming in to score on a wild pitch.
Two more would come in to score in the fourth thanks to a Luke Matthews RBI bunt single and Jatczak hit his second double of the day to score Max Humphrey.
The Zips would answer back with two runs in the top of the fifth. Kent State got one back in the bottom half thanks to a Klotz sacrifice fly.
The Flashes would break the game wide open in the bottom of the sixth inning hanging a five spot on the scoreboard. Humphrey would get the party started with an RBI double up the left field line, Jatczak would bring in two on a RBI triple that split the gap in left center, Casey shot an RBI double out to left, and Sawyer Solitaria would bring in one on a sacrifice fly to right.
Jatczak came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and just a home run short of the cycle. The slugger would give the ball a good ride out to center field but came up short of the wall. The sacrifice fly would score Ripken Reese from third and Humphrey would fly around the bases to score from second the enact the 10-run rule.
Gavin Jones got the start on the mound going four innings and allowing four runs en route to his fifth win of the year. Benny Roebuck would pitch one inning of relief allowing one run. Caden Leonard pitch two shutout innings to close out the win for the Flashes.
On Deck for the Flashes
The Flashes and the Zips will meet on Saturday Apr. 26 for game two of the three game series. First pitch at Schoonover is set for 3 p.m.
