Flashes Comeback to Take Series Over Zips

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team bounced back on Sunday to clinch the series victory over the rival Akron Zips by a score of 6-3.

After two quiet innings the Zips would jump out to a three-run lead in the top of the third thanks to a two-run triple and an RBI single.

Kent State would score the last six runs of the game unanswered. It would all start on a Brody Williams RBI single in the bottom of the third, the Catcher would send a towering fly ball to left field that would get lost in the sun and fall to the turf untouched.

Jake Casey would bring the Flashes within one on a solo shot that left Schoonover Stadium in a hurry.

Landon Tiesing would tie the game with a two out RBI single blooped over the head of the Akron second baseman. Hayden Jatczak would come up just a couple batters later with the bases loaded and the graduate student delivered with a three-run bases clearing double to jump out the 6-3 lead.

The Zips would threaten with runners at the corners in the top of the eighth inning, but Williams would come up clutch from behind the dish. The junior received the ball at home and fired a back pick at third bases catching the Akron runner sleeping and would get the Flashes out of the inning.

Evan holewinski got just his second start of the season on Sunday allowing three runs across 2.2 innings of work. Eric Chalus would follow him up with five shutout innings out of the bullpen. The senior was great going five innings allowing just three hits and striking out four Zips. Caden Leonard slammed the door closed going 1.1 innings allowing just a hit and striking out one en route to his first save of the season.

On Deck for the Flashes

The Flashes will be back at Schoonover Stadium on Tuesday Apr. 29 as they host Pitt Johnstown. First pitch is currently slated for 6 p.m.
