Tiesing Leads Flashes to Run Rule Victory on Tuesday

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team closed out their nine-game home stand with a 12-2 run rule victory over the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats on Tuesday evening at Schoonover Stadium.

The Flashes ran all over the Mountain Cats on the base paths stealing 11 bases on the night. Max Humphrey and Landon Tiesing led the way with three stolen bases a piece, Luke Matthews and Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe were right behind them with two a piece, and Brody Williams had one stolen base.

Sawyer Solitaria broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second with a solo shot over the wall in left field. Tiesing would hit his first of two RBI doubles of the day to bring home Kiracofe and later come in to score on a double steal of home. Humphrey would come in just a few batters later on a Jake Casey bases loaded hit by pitch.

Kent State would get two more in the bottom of the third on Tiesing's second RBI double of the night and an RBI single by Humphrey.

Pitt-Johnstown scored two in the top of the sixth to cut into the Kent State lead.

The Flashes responed right away in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of three-run homers. Williams would hit the first homer over the wall in center and Tiesing would follow it up with a three-run homer of his own over the wall in left.

Ciaran Caughey got the start on the mound for the Flashes pitching three shutout innings allowing just one run while striking out six. Alex Alberico followed up Caughey with 1.2 innings allowing no hits and striking out two. Nick Guidas, Jaden Varner, and Gannon Wentz would combine for the next 1.1 innings. Ben Rabatin would come in to pitch the seventh and strike out two Mountain Cats.

On Deck for the Flashes

The Flashes will hit the road for a massive three game Mid-American Conference series against the conference leading Ball State Cardinals. The two teams are set for a 3 p.m. first pitch on Friday and a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and Sunday.
