MOUNT PLEASANT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team got a 4-0 shutout victory over the Central Michigan Chippewas on Saturday.
Jacob Bean was phenomenal on the mound for the Flashes again. The right hander went seven innings of shutout baseball allowing just three hits and striking out seven Chippewas. Bean has given up one or less runs in his last three starts and has gone longer than six innings in back-to-back starts. The Chippewas would threaten in the third and fifth with their first two batters reaching base, but Bean settled in and did not let them pass third base.
Kent State would open the scoring in the top of the second when Alejandro Covas ripped a double to left field that would score Hunter Klotz and Luke Matthews.
The Flashes would double their lead in the top of the eighth on back-to-back RBI single by Brody Williams and Klotz.
Out of the bullpen for the Kent State, Benny Roebuck would follow up Bean with 0.2 of an inning before Kent State turned to their closer Peyton Cariaco. The senior got the final four outs of the game en route to his second save of the weekend and ninth on the season.
The shutout win for the the Flashes is their first of the 2025 season and their first since a 27-0 victory over Youngstown State last season.
