
Shippee Wins Javelin on Opening Day at MAC Outdoor T&F Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – Freshman Payton Shippee won the javelin to lead Kent State in action on the first day of competition at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Men's Track and Field Championship.
Shippee opened his first conference meet with a throw of 191'-6" to lead after the first round and followed with a personal-best heave of 205'-1" on his second attempt. His gold medal-capturing throw soared more than 10 feet further than every other competitor.
Donovan Crawford added five points to the Golden Flashes' total with a fourth-place showing in the hammer throw. Crawford's furthest throw of the day went 193'-10".
The final three points on Thursday came from Carter Almady, who placed sixth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:07.76.
Ayden Bath leads the decathlon by 172 points. Bath totaled 3,925 points while placing first in the 100-meter dash (10.86), long jump (23'-8.25") and high jump (6'-7.5"). Joel Enander sits third in the standings with 3,697 points and Mason Murphy is sixth with 3,212 points.
The Flashes had three athletes post qualifying times in each of the day's two prelim races. Sean Callahan Jr., Ryan Gruss and Jaheim Jones qualified in both the 100-meter dash. Beau Harkelroad, Owen Miller and Zamen Siyoum advanced in the 400-meter hurdles.
Competition resumes at 11 a.m. on Friday with the decathlon 110-meter hurdles.
