
Flashes Claim 11 Event Victories at Northeast Ohio Open

AKRON, Ohio — The Kent State track and field teams totaled 11 first-place finishes during competition at the Northeast Ohio Open on Friday and Saturday.
Leading the way was the women's 4x100-meter relay team of Taylor Korytkowski, Yissis Cortijo Dominc, Rakyia Addo and Amryne Chilton, which won in a time of 45.96 seconds that ranks as the eighth fastest in program history.
The Golden Flashes' women recorded three individual victories on the track. Jericha Petrella won the 400-meter dash in 55.16 seconds, Karsyn Spears too the 800-meter run in 2:11.20 and Nora Salem was the first to cross the finish line in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:35.11.
On the men's side, Zavion Mattox won the 200-meter dash (21.35), Dylan McBride won the 800-meter run (1L51.04) and Jack Curtis won the 3K steeplechase (9:52.19).
Kent State totaled three victories in field events. Aliesha Shaw nearly matched her season-best with a throw of 160'-2" to win the discus. Shelby Grover won the women's long jump with a personal-best mark of 19'-7" and Amare Hall took the men's long jump by soaring 23'-9.5".
The Flashes will compete at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Athens, Ohio from May 15-17.
