Trio of Flashes Earn Men’s Golf Academic All-MAC Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference revealed its 2025 men's golf Academic All-MAC Team on Wednesday, with the Kent State senior trio of Edvin Backstrom, Jordan Gilkison, and Bryce Reed each earning a selection.
The Academic All-MAC Team recognizes student-athletes who excel in both athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
The only three Golden Flashes eligible for the honor based on upperclassman status and events played this season, Backstrom, Gilkison, and Reed were crucial to Kent State's 29th MAC Championship in program history in 2025, the team's first since 2022.
