Evanston, Illinois- The Kent State soccer team hits the road to the Chicago-area for one of their toughest tests of the season as they will take on the Northwestern University Wildcats Sunday at 5 p.m. ET.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes dropped their home-opener last Sunday in a heartbreaker to Duquesne by a score of 3-2.
KSU scored the first two goals of the contest in the first half as Samantha Miller capitalized on the first from a pass by Kiyomi McCausland in the 23rd-minute. The second came from Isabelle Leofanti in the 42nd-minute who was assisted by Maya Justice.
Duquesne scored a trio of goals in the second half in a span of five minutes to secure them the victory. Maya Matesa scored the first, while Mackenzie Muir connected on a penalty shot from a handball. Less than a minute later Matesa put away another penalty shot to give the Dukes the lead that would hold for the rest of the contest.
Scouting Northwestern
The Wildcats enter the matchup with a 2-1 record on the early season as they open their home schedule against Kent State. They took care of Loyola Chicago and Illinois State in their first two games, but most recently fell to the No. 1 team in the country in the Duke Blue Devils by a score of 3-0.
Northwestern returns 65% of their offensive production from a 6-10-3 season in 2024. Senior midfielder Caterina Regazzoni, sophomore forward Kennedy Roesch and sophomore forward/midfielder Alex Fallon will be players to watch as all three were named to the 2025 Big Ten Women's Soccer Players to Watch List.
Roesch led the team as a freshman in 2024 with 14 points from six goals and two assists, as Regazzoni leads the Wildcats so far this season with three points off of one goal and one assist. Fallon has also tallied two assists to start the 2025 season.
Series History
Sunday will mark the 3rd meeting all-time between Kent State and Northwestern. The Wildcats are 2-0 against KSU in previous meetings. However, the last time out; the Flashes held tough, in a narrow 3-2 loss on the road in 2021.

Following Northwestern, the Blue and Gold will return home for a matchup with Youngstown State at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
