Ella McCollom Wins Wooster Invitational to Open Season

WOOSTER, Ohio — Junior Ella McCollom won the first cross country race of her Kent State career as the 2025 campaign at the Wooster Invitational on Friday.
McCollom completed the women's 4K in 15:12.7, more than eight seconds ahead of every other runner, as five Golden Flashes recorded top-10 finishes in the race. Graduate student Grace Smith and sophomore Nora Salem both clocked times of 15:46.3 to place fourth and fifth, respectively. Freshman Camille Dunifer was right behind in 15:47.4 for sixth. Sophomore Alexis Tracy was the next Kent State runner across the line in 15:53.0 for ninth.
The Flashes were led by four freshmen in the men's four-mile race. Michael Hanselman had an impressive debut with a time of 21:44.5 for fourth place. Caleb Wilcox finished in 22:02.6 for eighth. Owen Kelly (22:09.8) and Tanner Smith (22:25.2) placed 11th and 13th, respectively.
Kent State return to action on Friday, Sept. 19 at the All-Ohio Classic in Cedarville, Ohio.
