
Flashes Volleyball Visits Local Horizon League Opponents to Close Non-Conference Schedule

Kent State finishes the non-conference portion of the 2025 volleyball schedule this week with single matches at Cleveland State on Thursday and Youngstown State on Friday. Both contests will be streamed onย ESPN+.

PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State (4-5) has gone 2-1 each of the past two weekends and hasย a chance to finish non-conference play with a winning record for the first time since 2022.
Senior Mackenzie McGuire is the MAC leader in kills per set (4.21) and ranks 17th in the nation in total kills (143). McGuire has recorded at least 17 kills in six of nine matches and ranks second in the conference in points per set (4.76).
A trio of newcomers have made immediate impacts to Kent State's attack, as freshman Macie Moreland (62), junior Mercedez Brown (62) and redshirt sophomore Adalynn Ginley (42) are the next three kills leaders. Ginley ranks seventh in the conference in both hitting percentage (.304) and blocks per set (1.00).
Junior Christina Vigil ranks third in the MAC at 9.29 assists per set and ranks 37th nationally in total assists (316). Vigil also leads the Flashes with 2.32 digs per set.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Cleveland State
The Vikings (1-8) earned their first win of the season against Duke on Sunday. Outside hitter Bryn VanVleet leads the way with 3.37 kills per set and outside hitter Laken Voss (2.70 kps) is seven kills away from 1,000 in her career. Libero Vayda Delventhal leads the Horizon League with an average of 4.90 digs per set.
Youngstown State
The Penguins (5-4) lead the Horizon League in hitting percentage (.241) while also ranking in the top three in kills per set (12.39), digs per set (15.11) and blocks per set (2.25). Outside hitter Abbie Householder is the top attacker at 3.33 kills per set. Libero Brie Habeeb leads the defense with 4.24 digs per set.
ALL-TIME VS. OPPONENTSย
Kent State is 32-25 all-time against Cleveland State, including a 2-1 record under head coach Haley Eckerman.
The Golden Flashes hold a decisive 22-6 edge against Youngstown State and have lost two straight in the series.
