KENT, Ohio — Games against two opponents that finished last year ranked in the both the AP and WBCA polls and a trip to the Bahamas highlight Kent State's 2025-26 non-conference schedule, which was released on Tuesday.
Fans will have their first opportunity to see the team in action on Oct. 29 when the Golden Flashes host Pitt-Johnstown in an exhibition contest at the M.A.C. Center.
Nine games are scheduled for the first 28 days of the regular season, beginning Nov. 3 at James Madison in a previously announced MAC-Sun Belt Challenge matchup. Kent State will then play at West Virginia on Nov. 7 as the teams meet on the hardwood for the first time since 1988.
The home opener will be Nov. 7 against Walsh to start a three-game week. Following a trip to Xavier on Nov. 14, the Flashes will host Niagara at the M.A.C. Center on Nov. 16.
A marquee matchup at Ohio State will follow on Nov. 19. This will be the first time the Flashes and Buckeyes battle in Columbus in front of fans since 1980.
The final true road contest of the month will be played at Duquesne on Nov. 24.
Kent State will then travel to Nassau, Bahamas to compete in the 2025 Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship at the Baha Mar Convention, Arts & Entertainment Center. The Flashes will play two games and the complete field for the four-team bracketed event is expected to be announced later this month.
"Our non-conference schedule was constructed with the goal of preparing for another rigorous Mid-American Conference schedule," Starkey said. "We start at mid-major powerhouse James Madison in the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge, while also playing in NCAA Tournament type environments at West Virginia and Ohio State that will provide major opportunities for growth. The schedule is heavy with road games early, but we are hopeful that our fans will travel well with most non-conference games within driving distance. Our late November Baha Mar tournament in the Bahamas will provide two additional high level opponents on a neutral court and a great travel experience for our student-athletes."
The last road non-conference game will be played against Marshall on Dec. 6, and Kent State will host Davis & Elkins on Dec. 15 for the final tune-up for the start of Mid-American Conference play on Dec. 20.
The Flashes will conclude the non-conference slate on Feb. 7 with a to-be-announced opponent as part of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge.
