LOWELL, Mass. – The Kent State field hockey team concluded a six-game road stand at UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon, suffering a 3-2 overtime defeat. The Golden Flashes (1-6, 0-1) never trailed in the game until the River Hawks scored a game-winning goal early in the first overtime period.

After a scoreless first quarter, Emma Rolston opened the scoring just 18 seconds into the second period to give the Flashes a 1-0 advantage. Rolston improves her 2025 goal total to four, the second most on the squad. UMass Lowell wasted little time finding a response, knotting the score at one goal apiece just three minutes later, a scoreline that would stick until halftime.

After both teams failed to add a goal in the third quarter, Kent State was able to retake the advantage early in the fourth. Maybritt Duwel finished an incisive pass from Emma Seger to give the Flashes a 2-1 lead with just over 11 minutes remaining. For Duwel, it was her team-high fifth goal of the season, while Seger now leads the team with four assists. Similar to the second quarter, it didn't take long for the River Hawks to find a response, as they leveled the score just four minutes later. With neither team able to find a game-winning goal in regulation, the contest moved to overtime, tied at two goals apiece. The hosts found the back of the cage just 97 seconds into the first overtime period to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Flashes.

Kent State closes non-conference play at a 1-5 mark after facing a difficult slate of opponents, with the team's lone win coming in the season-opener over Mercyhurst. The Flashes will return to Murphy-Mellis field for the first time since the season-opening victory as they welcome Miami for the second game of MAC play on Friday at 2 p.m.
