FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Kent State Herb Page men's golf team and Dr. Paula Treckel women's golf team each began the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Monday at the Blessings Golf Course. Each team sits in fifth place out of ten through 18 holes after the men posted a 14-over-par 302 and the women recorded an 18-over-par 306.
Host Arkansas holds the lead in both the men's and women's field, holding a six-stroke lead at 5-over-par on the men's side and a seven-stroke lead at 2-over-par on the women's side.
Isaiah Ibit continued a hot start to his sophomore season on Monday. The Canadian international fired an even-par 72 to sit tied for second place through 18 holes. One of just six men and ten individuals on the course to record a round of par or better on Monday, Ibit used a balanced round of four birdies and four bogeys to trail the individual leader by just one stroke entering tomorrow's second round.
Appearing in just his third collegiate tournament, freshman Liam Curtis posted a birdie and 14 pars in round one en route to a 2-over-par 74. Curtis is tied for 11th among the 55 men's golfers competing, seeking to build on the strong start for the first top-20 finish of his career. Nolan Haynes is also in the top 20 through 18 holes, as he is tied for 18th place after shooting a 3-over-par 75.
Gracie Larsen posted the low score of the day for the Kent State women with her best round of the season on Monday. The reigning MAC Freshman of the Year posted a 2-over-par 74 after carding birdies on four of her final eight holes. Larsen is tied for sixth among the 55 women's golfers competing at the Blessings Collegiate, trailing the individual leader by nine strokes ahead of round two on Tuesday.
Fresh off a top-20 finish at the Canadian Collegiate, Aryn Matthews opened the Blessings Collegiate with a strong start on Monday. She fired a 4-over-par 76 to sit tied for 11th place after round one. With two top-20 finishes already under her belt this season, Matthews will look to hold steady for another 36 holes on Tuesday and Wednesday. Rounding out the lineup for the Flashes' women, Isabella Goyette and Leon Takagi each fired 6-over-par rounds of 78 in round one to sit tied for 26th place.
The Golden Flashes will continue the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday, with round two set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
