MISHIMA, Japan – The Kent State men's golf team concluded its opening tournament of the 2025-26 season on Thursday with round two of the Pan Pacific Golf Super League at Grand Fields Country Club after round three, originally planned for Friday, was canceled due to inclement weather. The Golden Flashes finished in fifth place after firing a 12-over-par 296 in round two, bringing the team to 15-over-par for the week.
Nihon University claimed the top spot at the tournament after being the only team to fire a round under par on Thursday, with a 6-under-par 278 to improve to 15-under-par overall. Of the three American teams competing, Kent State finishes one stroke fourth-placed Long Island, while the Flashes finish seven strokes ahead of seventh-placed George Washington.
Freshman Liam Curtis, making his first collegiate appearance for Kent State, had the Flashes' lowest score in round two, carding a 1-over-par 72. Curtis improved to 6-over-par as his final mark after 36 holes, finishing tied for 21st among the 59 golfers in the field.
Isaiah Ibit recorded a 2-over-par 73 on Thursday to maintain Kent State's highest individual score through 36 holes, clinching a top ten finish to open his sophomore season. The Canadian international was the Flashes' only golfer with a 36-hole score under par, finishing at 1-under-par and in ninth place.
After firing a 1-under-par 70 to open his collegiate career in round one on Wednesday, Christoffer Leuenhagen carded a 4-over-par 75 in round two to finish at 3-over-par overall, Kent State's second-best overall individual score through two rounds and good enough for a tied 15th-place finish. The Flashes' final countable score toward the team total on Thursday was earned by Ramiro Acevedo, who fired a 5-over-par 76 to fall to 7-over-par for the tournament.
With a round three cancellation, the Pan Pacific Golf Super League is over for the Flashes. Kent State's next tournament will take place on Canadian soil, as the team heads to Muskoka, Ontario, for the second edition of the Canadian Collegiate, set to begin on September 14.
