
Callahan Jr. Sets Kent State and MAC Records on Opening Day of Indoor T&F Championships

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Kent State sprinter Sean Callahan Jr. clocked a time of 6.64 seconds during the prelims at the 2026 Mid-American Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday to set program and conference meet records.
Desmond Boyd and Amare Hall led the way with silver medals, as the Golden Flashes are second in the team standings after with 29 points through four event finals.
Boyd placed second in the weight throw with a personal-best of 67'-11.50", which puts him sixth on the program's all-time performance list. Donovan Crawford, who won the event a year ago, took fourth with a top throw of 62'-4.50".
Hall soared 23'-10.75" to finish as runner-up in the long jump for the second year in a row. The senior recorded a mark of 23'-9.50" on his second attempt of the day and remained in the lead until the final round. Luigi Case scored four points with a jump of 23'-5.50" for fourth place.
Michael Hanselman ran a season-best time of 14:41.34 to place sixth and secure a point in the 5,000-meter run in his conference meet debut.
The Flashes closed the day with a fourth-place finish for four points in the distance medley relay, as Caleb Bost, Fabio Justo, Gabriel Wise and Luke Jones finished the relay race in 10:13.27.
Ayden Bath sits atop the heptathlon table with 3,226 points after taking first in three of the day's four events. Bath takes a 563-point lead into Saturday. Linkon Tyrrell (2,633) is just 30 points out of third and Jack Dillen (2,477) sits sixth entering the final three events of the multis competition on Saturday.
Led by Callahan Jr., Kent State had 12 runners advance to Saturday during prelim races. Jacob Stanley joined Callahan Jr. in the 60-meter dash. Ryan Gruss, Zavion Mattox and Chaz Sakala advanced in the 200-meter dash. Beau Harkelroad and Owen Miller moved on in the 400-meter dash. Dylan McBride, Preston Rieger and Evan Graessle qualified in the 400-meter dash. In the 60-meter hurdles, Bath and Zamen Siyoum earned the opportunity to compete for gold.
The final day of the championship meet will begin with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles at 10 a.m. Saturday. Running events will start at 12:40 p.m. with the mile.
