
Women’s Basketball Beats CMU, Punches Ticket to MAC Tournament

KENT, Ohio — Kent State defeated visiting Central Michigan, 63-56, on Saturday afternoon at the M.A.C. Center to clinch a spot in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Golden Flashes (14-14, 8-8 MAC) have won three of their last four games and are in a three-way tie for sixth in the conference standings with two games remaining in the regular season.
After a slow start that included an eight-point deficit at the first media timeout, Kent State got within 16-13 at the end of the first quarter on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by junior Corynne Hauser.
The Flashes took their first lead with a 9-0 run midway through the second period. After falling behind by a point, Kent State went back ahead with a 7-0 run. Central Michigan then took its turn beating the buzzer, but only for two, points to get within 31-27 at halftime.
Kent State's lead was trimmed to one midway through the third quarter before answering with six straight points. The teams played even in the period and the Flashes led 46-42 going into the fourth.
Trailing by three with 3:23 to play, Kent State closed with a 10-0 run to secure its ninth home victory of the season. Hauser scored six points during the decisive stretch, and three additional Flashes added free throws.
Hauser finished with a team-high 15 points. Junior Riley Rismiller added nine points and grabbed six rebounds to share the team lead with sophomore Emory Klatt.
The Flashes will host begin the final week of the regular season with a contest at first-place Miami on Wednesday, March 4.
