Kent, OHIO - For the second straight game, a late surge from the Kent State Lacrosse team fell a little short as the Flashes dropped a 10-6 game to their rival in Akron in a Mid-American Conference matchup.
A slow start offensively for KSU allowed the Zips to get out to a comfortable 5-0 halftime lead with a slow-pace of play in the first half. The Flashes stepped it up in the second half outscoring Akron 6-5, but it was just a little late to mount a comeback as the Blue and Gold produced two goals in the third quarter and four in the fourth quarter.
It was a tale of two possession categories in the game as the Zips dominated draw controls by a tally of 12-5, but the Flashes controlled the ground ball category with 23 compared to Akron's 13.
Senior Zayda Crumpton scored half of the goals for Kent State with three while also contributing an assist for four points. Morgan Halli, Eva Anderson and Megan Klepacki scored the other goals for the Golden Flashes.
On the defensive end, freshman Kate Donavan and sophomore Anna Zucconi led the way with a pair of caused turnovers. Allie Bradley, Ava Todd and Sydney Davis each contributed four ground balls. Davis also produced six saves for the Flashes in net.
