Kent State Cross Country Opens 2026 Season at Tommy Evans Invitational

The Kent State cross country teams open the 2026 season Friday at the 56th Annual Tommy Evans Invitational, hosted by Akron at Silver Creek Cross Country Trails in Norton. The women's 5K is slated to start the meet at 6:15 p.m., followed by the men's 6K p.m.
Previewing the Flashes
Lucas Hofer was hired in June to lead the cross country program following a successful three-year run on staff at Wake Forest.
Sophomore Michael Hanselman is the top returner for the men's team after pacing Kent State in all six races he competed last season. Fellow sophomore Owen Kelly show growth during his freshman campaign and was the Flashes' second runner across the finish line in the final two races. Seniors Jack Curtis and Rylan Winkler are the only team members with multiple years of experience at the college level.
The women's team has a more veteran roster, which is anchored by senior Ella McCollom. Junior Nora Salem finished last season strong and is joined by classmates Emerson Greene, Mailey Jackson, Gianna Pedone and Alexis Tracy.
