Matt Edwards is in his fourth year as a full time member the Golden Flashes' coaching staff. Starting this spring, his duties will shift slightly from the entire defensive line to the defensive ends.
In his first season in the position, Edwards coached Daniel Muir, who earned first team All-MAC honors before going on to sign a free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers. In 2007, Colin Ferrell was a first team All-MAC selection at nose tackle and was quickly snapped up as a free agent by the Indianapolis Colts soon after the draft ended.
In 2005, he worked with the defensive line and scout teams in his role as graduate assistant for defense.
Edwards joined the Kent State University football program in 2004 as the team's video coordinator. In that role, he was responsible for directing game-day filming assignments, editing game tape and scouting video as well as producing the team's annual highlight film and recruit highlight video.
Edwards was a four-year letterwinner at Miami University on the defensive line. He was voted a team captain his senior season when he led his team and tied for 10th in the nation with 10 quarterback sacks.
Prior to joining the Kent State staff, Edwards coached linebackers and assisted with special teams efforts at the College of Wooster during the 2003 season.
Edwards, a native of Cincinnati, graduated from Miami in December of 2002 with a bachelor's degree in sport organization. He is currently nearing the completion of his master's degree in sport and recreational management from Kent State University.
Edwards and the former Mary Thomas were married on June 28, 2008 and reside in Stow.
