After seeing his field goal accuracy drop in 2008, Nate Reed will work on returning to his record-setting form from 2007...coaches are counting on him to be much more consistent in his final year.
Career
Heads into his senior season ranked in the Kent State record books with 27 career field goals made (third all-time) and 40 attempted (fifth all-time)...also stands fourth in PATs made (62) and fifth in PATs attempted (71).
2008 Junior Season
Finished the season 33-for-36 on PATs and 8-of-13 on field goal attempts...33 PATs ranks second in school seasons annals...third on the team with 57 points...tallied 11 points on Nov. 12 against Temple, including the game-winning field goal with 6:12 left...totaled a season-high 12 points and a season-long 48-yard field goal at Miami Oct. 25...booted a 43-yard field goal on Sept. 13 against Delaware State...presented with the Leo Strang Award at the end of spring practice as the upperclassman with the highest cumulative GPA.
2007 Sophomore Season
Appeared in all 12 games, handling all of the team's kicking duties...on Oct. 27 against Central Michigan, kicked a school-record 52-yard field goal, besting the previous record set by Paul Marchese in 1977 by a yard...tied the record set by Gorden Ober in 1970 for most field goals made in a game with four against Ohio on Sept. 29...tied Marchese's record for most field goals in a season with 18...tied for fourth on the all-time list with 19...tied the record set by Travis Mayle in 2003 for most field goals attempted in a game with five against the Bobcats and then again versus Central Michigan on Oct. 27...was 18-of-24 on the season, as well as 25-of-30 on PAT attempts...his 79 points led the team and stands ninth on the all-time KSU single season list...was ninth in the league with an average of 6.6 points per game...tied for second in the league and 21st in the nation with an average of 1.50 field goals per game...also tied for fifth in the league with a 75 percent field goal rate......the 33 yard line was the average starting position for opponents...shared the team's Outstanding Special Teams Award with Howard Bowens.
2006 Freshman Season
Split time with Reid Macko as the two handled the Kent State kickoff, field goal and PAT duties...was one-for-four in field goal attempts on the season, with the lone successful try coming from 30 yards out against Miami on Sept. 16...boasted the highest punt average (39.5) and longest punt (57) on the team, punting four total times, landing three inside the 20-yard line...one of eight true freshmen to earn a varsity letter.
Prior to Kent State
Was named to the All-Ohio Second Team and all-county, All-Suburban League and All-Northeast Inland District First Teams as a kicker at Wadsworth High School...also earned All-Sun Receiver and All-Beacon Journal as well as a Coaches' All-Star by the Suburuban League coaches...he connected on 31-of-33 extra points and 7-of-10 field goals for the Grizzlies...had a long field goal of 43 yards and had 25 touchbacks on kickoffs...also was the team's second leading rusher (430 yards) and caught nine passes for 98 yards, scoring two touchdowns...he also played defensive back, registering 21 tackles and returning an interception for a touchdown...leading kicker in school history...was coached by Greg Dennison...lettered four years in track and field, holding the school record in 300-meter hurdles...also wrestled.
