Former Kent State infielder Jodi Stevens begins her first season at her alma mater serving as a volunteer assistant coach. Stevens recently spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at Robert Morris University.
Stevens was a four-year letterwinner with the Golden Flashes from 2001-05 and earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2005.
“We are very excited to have Jodi join our staff,” Head Coach Karen Linder said. “She brings a lot of positives to our program. As an alumnus she is familiar with our coaching philosophies as well as the Mid-American Conference.”
While at Robert Morris, the Colonials won the Northeast Conference regular season championship in 2006.
“Jodi’s two years at Robert Morris gives her the experience to make an immediate impact in our practices, which our players will greatly benefit from,” Linder said. “Having her as a member of our staff allows our players to get more individual attention from another experienced and knowledgeable coach.”
As a junior at KSU, Stevens was named to the All-MAC Second Team after leading the Flashes in runs batted in (17) and slugging percentage (.429). She hit .300 as a senior and .303 as a sophomore with 21 RBI. Her 15 career home runs still rank seventh among Kent State’s career leaders.
Stevens earned a master’s degree in educational leadership at Robert Morris and is currently working towards a second master’s degree at Kent State. A native of McCutchenville, Ohio, she attended Mohawk High School.
