Mary Dunn enters her second season as an assistant coach for the Kent State women's basketball program.
Dunn’s work with the post players showed immediate returns, as the Golden Flashes ranked third in the Mid-American Conference in rebounding (39.0 rpg) and second in offensive rebounding percentage (36.7%) during the 2025-26 campaign. Emory Klatt and Riley Rismiller secured spots in the record book with historic 11-of-12 shooting performances that set a new single-game field goal percentage (.917) standard. Klatt scored a career-high 29 points in a rivalry victory over Akron on Jan. 17, and Rismiller went for a career-high 25 points on the road against Buffalo in the next game on Jan. 24.
Prior to Kent State, Dunn helped UAB to Postseason WNIT appearances during both of her seasons on staff in Birmingham. After serving as a graduate assistant for the 2023-24 season, she was promoted to assistant coach/director of operations the following year. Dunn’s transition to an on-court coaching role for the 2024-25 campaign resulted in major improvements on the interior, as the Blazers ranked 25th nationally in defensive rebounds per game (28.2) and 31st in blocks per game (4.4). Individually, forward Jade Weathersby nearly doubled her rebounding contribution and ranked second in the American Athletic Conference at 9.2 rebounds per game en route to AAC All-Conference Second Team honors.
Dunn played professionally with the Brunell Basketball Club, which competes in the Irish Superleague, the highest-level professional women's league in Ireland. In 18 games during the 2022-23 season, she averaged 10 points and 14 rebounds per game.
As a collegian, she played parts of six seasons at the NCAA Division I level – five at Youngstown State and one at Pitt. She appeared in 114 games and totaled 1,299 points, 540 rebounds, 91 blocks and 75 assists while shooting 53.2% from the floor during her career with the Penguins. Her accolades included All-Horizon League First Team and Sixth Player of the Year in 2018-19, All-Horizon League Second Team in 2020-21 and Horizon League Freshman of the Year and All-Freshman Team in 2016-17. Dunn transferred to Pitt for her final season of eligibility and played in 24 games while making four starts during the 2021-22 campaign.
Academically, she was selected to the Google Cloud Third Team Academic All-America Team in 2019 in addition to being a three-time member of the Horizon League All-Academic Team.
Dunn earned her bachelor's degree from Youngstown State in May 2020 as a double major in communications and sociology with a perfect 4.0 grade point average and added a master's in professional communication in 2021.
